We’re excited to share that Color Powder Supply Co. will be attending the California PTA Leadership Convention from April 30 through May 3. The good news is that you don’t need complicated equipment or a huge budget to host a successful event. With a little planning and a few key pieces in place, setting up a color run or color walk can be surprisingly easy.

Color Run Tips You Haven’t Heard Yet

You’ve seen the usual color run advice before…. wear white, bring a towel, take lots of pictures. But after working with hundreds of schools, PTAs, and event planners, we’ve picked up a few tips you haven’t seen all over the internet. These are the little things that make a big difference come race day.

1. Prep Your Squeeze Bottles Before the Event

Before race day, test each squeeze bottle or color sprayer. Give them a shake and a squeeze to make sure the powder flows easily. If it’s clogging or coming out in clumps, trim the nozzle slightly or stir up the powder inside. A little prep saves a lot of frustration later.

2. Check Nozzles for Obstructions

Humidity can cause color powder to clump over time. Before the big event, open each bottle and make sure the nozzle isn’t blocked. Clean, clear openings make the color spread beautifully (and evenly).

3. Aim for the Torso, Not the Face

Powder belongs in the air, not in someone’s mouth or eyes. Remind volunteers to aim low, around the torso area. It keeps things fun, safe, and way more photogenic.

4. Don’t Wear Your Favorite Shoes

Color powder washes off skin and most clothes easily, but it can linger in shoe creases or on certain materials. Go for an older pair you won’t mind getting colorful. Think of them as your “color run keepsakes.”

6. Choose a Location That Won’t Cause Headaches Later

Hosting a color run at your school is one of those events kids (and parents) will remember for years. But let’s be honest… pulling it off can feel overwhelming if it’s your first time planning one. Over the years, we’ve seen schools nail it and others struggle, and most of the hiccups come down to the same mistakes.

The good news? They’re all totally avoidable. Here are the top 10 missteps we see and how to make sure your event is nothing but fun and color.

1. Running Out of Powder

This is the big one. You don’t want to be the school that runs out of color before the last wave of kids comes through. It’s easy to underestimate how much you’ll need, especially with larger groups.

2. Choosing the Wrong Location
