Our powder is 98% food-grade corn starch and 2% FDA-certified color additives, independently tested by SGS — heavy metals, lead, and phthalates: not detected. How to Use Color Powder Safely

Color powder is made to be thrown, tossed, or released into the air for a colorful visual effect. Toss handfuls into the air outdoors on a calm day, or load it into powder cannons for a bigger burst. Made for outdoor use. Like all fine powders — including flour and cornstarch — keep away from open flame and don’t use in enclosed spaces. Avoid direct contact with eyes; rinse with water if contact occurs. Not intended for consumption. See our full test results on the Color Powder Safety page.

We send our powder to SGS for independent testing. Heavy metals, lead, and phthalates all came back not detected. It’s gentle on skin, but avoid direct contact with eyes and rinse with water if it happens. Avoid inhaling it, and use it outdoors, not in enclosed spaces. Not intended for consumption. Yes. We send it to SGS, one of the world’s largest independent testing companies. Heavy metals (all 19 elements under EN 71-3), lead, and phthalates — including all eight restricted under the CPSIA — came back not detected. We’ll send the full reports on request.

A general rule of thumb is one to two 1-pound bags of color powder per color station for every 100–150 runners. For large events, our bulk color powder cases are the most cost-effective option.

It washes out of most fabrics and off skin with soap and water. Color can temporarily persist on bleached or light-colored hair and on porous surfaces. We recommend white or old clothing.

We don’t recommend it. Color powder is made for outdoor use. Like all fine powders, it shouldn’t be used in enclosed spaces, and it can settle into carpet and upholstery.
