How Much Powder Should I Buy For A Color Run?If you are planning a 5K (3.1 miles) color run or color walk, 3 to 5 color stations is typical, which puts a station roughly every 0.6 to 1 mile. For a more colorful experience, opt for 5 stations. For a more moderate one, 3 may be enough.
Plan on about 1/4 to 1/2 pound of color powder per participant, depending on how colorful you want participants to be. Our color powder calculator uses 1/2 pound per participant for an average level of color. Opt for more to elevate your event, or go with fewer stations if you’re on a tight budget.
For a color run with 100 participants and 5 color stations, you’ll want enough powder to keep the experience vibrant throughout. Divide the total by the number of stations.
Lighter coverage (1/4 pound per person):
Total powder needed: 25 pounds
Per station: 25 pounds divided by 5 stations = 5 pounds per station
Average coverage (1/2 pound per person):
Total powder needed: 50 pounds
Per station: 50 pounds divided by 5 stations = 10 pounds per station
